Yung Sammy and Urban Poet Flex on their Night Out in ‘4×4’ Video
The Delhi NCR artists have released their second song together this year, following “Shaant” with BBB
It’s all about the whip for Delhi NCR-based Nigerian artist Yung Sammy aka Samuel Lloyds and regular collaborator Urban Poet aka Shubham Tyagi on their hook-heavy new collaboration “4×4.”
In the works for at least a few months now, the song acts as a launch of sorts for Yung Sammy, the Nigerian Hindi rapper who was previously releasing music under the moniker Sammy. He says, “Me and my management decided to add a little more spark with the name as just Sammy is kinda ordinary, which led to us keeping it as Yung Sammy.”
Written and recorded in the span of an hour, there’s a very simple motivation for “4×4” – it’s that typically Delhi launda rite of passage of showing off your ride as your drive around town with your friends. Yung Sammy says the song and the video “encapsulates the vibrant youth lifestyle in Delhi NCR.”
He adds about the song, “The catchy hook, ‘Geddi with the bois in a 4×4, note rkhe jeb mai 2×2,’ vividly portrays the essence of the NCR lifestyle. This line conveys the idea of friends cruising together in a 4×4 vehicle, while also suggesting a carefree attitude with pockets holding cash twice the usual. The song paints a picture of camaraderie, adventure, and a distinct way of living that resonates with the energetic vibe of the region.”
The latest release follows Yung Sammy and Urban Poet’s second collaboration released this year, following the BBB-led single “Shaant” in April. Sammy recounts how he and Urban Poet met at a studio through a mutual friend and recorded an as-yet unreleased song called “Minutes Apart,” also bringing in hip-hop artist Flyboy. “The energy and the vibe was mutual which led us to make many tracks together almost at every studio session,” Sammy adds.
There are more collaborations coming up after “4×4,” some of which Yung Sammy terms as “big names and homegrown artists” alike. With Urban Poet, the duo will pair up once again for a song called “Top G,” which they’ve been performing live. He adds, “[It’s] different, with overflowing energy.”
