The actors first confirmed their relationship in 2021 after starring in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017
Zendaya and Tom Holland are engaged! Sources close to the Spider-Man power couple confirmed their engagement Monday, Jan. 6, after Zendaya walked the Golden Globe red carpet showing off what appeared to be an engagement ring on her left hand.
Both TMZ and People reported the confirmation, with one source telling the latter publication that “everyone close to them knew an engagement was happening.” The person added of Holland: “He’s always been crazy about her. He always knew she was the one. They have something very special.”
The proposal reportedly took place at one of Zendaya’s family homes over the holidays. It’s unclear when the couple plans to get married, with a source saying they “won’t rush a wedding” and adding, “They are both busy with work projects.” (Including two together: Christopher Nolan’s reported adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey, and a Spider-Man sequel reportedly in development.)
Holland and Zendaya confirmed their relationship in 2021 after first starring together in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017.
The engagement ring hubbub coincidentally came just a few days after Holland graced the cover of Men’s Health and shared that he preferred to let his girlfriend shine on her own during her big events. He did exactly that Sunday, as Zendaya walked the Globes red carpet on her own.
Zendaya was honored as one of the nominees for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for her lead role as Tashi Duncan in Challengers. Holland and Zendaya last posed for a red carpet together during the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere in 2021.
In the same Men’s Health story, Holland said he’s already planning for his future — including having kids. “When I have kids, you will not see me in movies anymore,” he said, adding that he would happily trade in his movie star life for fatherhood. “Golf and dad. And I will just disappear off the face of the earth.”
While Zendaya rarely speaks about the relationship, she praised Holland in a Vogue cover story last April. “We were both very, very young, but my career was already kind of going, and his changed overnight,” she said. “One day, you’re a kid and you’re at the pub with your friends, and then the next day, you’re Spider-Man. I definitely watched his life kind of change in front of him. But he handled it really beautifully.”
In a Dish Podcast interview last month, Holland also joked about the perks of dating Zendaya and filming Spider-Man, as well as the upcoming Nolan project. “Studios love it: one hotel room,” he joked. “Separate drivers. We’re not crazy.… It’s work, alright!”
