Zerobaseone, or ZB1, featuring Kim Ji-woong, Zhang Hao, Sung Han-bin, Seok Matthew, Kim Tae-rae, Ricky, Kim Gyu-vin, Park Gun-wook, and Han Yu-jin, is known for its bright, consistent sound. This popular fifth-generation K-pop boy band is neither confined to a niche concept nor a single vocal style, emphasizing versatility with a dynamic vocal team and a repertoire rich in melodic pop.
Keeping the tradition alive, Zerobaseone has just released their first full-length album, Never Say Never, accompanied by the music video for its title track, “Iconik,” which has already racked up over 12 million views on YouTube in a single day.
The dance-pop track urges you to embrace who you truly are to become the most iconic version of yourself, “regardless of what others think,” as the song instructs. With lyrics like “Boom (Oh)/On top of the moon/No gravity stopping us, just follow me,” the band members express their ambition to shine brighter, “become iconic on our own,” and inspire others to do the same. Their message is clear: “Never Say Never—nothing is impossible if you don’t give up,” and “get wilder, move” towards your dreams, no matter what, leaping to “touch down” and stand out.
“Iconik” is replete with energy and strong disco vibes, thanks to a solid bassline and layered synths that add depth to the sound. When the bridge kicks in, the synths get even more intense. But the real highlight, again, is Zerobaseone’s characteristic strong vocals, their chemistry only getting stronger as the song goes on.
The music video is pretty eye-catching, capturing the band’s journey to stardom against the symbolic backdrop of an airport. A star motif, representing their dreams, intercuts through various shots while Zerobaseone, in their stylish looks and slick choreography, sings, “What we do is iconic… What we got is iconic.”
“Iconik” solidifies the tone of its album, Never Say Never. According to a press statement, the album embodies the group’s drive and camaraderie as “Team Zerobaseone,” while they “embrace what they believe to be their most iconic moment in their careers thus far, building upon their completed Youth Trilogy and two-part Paradise series.”
