Zohran Miranda Releases Nostalgia-Filled Debut EP ‘Time for Two’

After releasing his ‘Quadrilogy’ of singles between 2020 and 2021, Mumbai-based guitarist-vocalist Zohran Miranda is now back with his five-track debut EP entitled Time for Two.

The songs on the new record were all written at different stages of Miranda’s life. He says, “In fact, I always thought releasing singles was the way to go in a post-2020 world, so the idea of an EP didn’t even come to me until Jovian [Soans] finished mixing the third song ‘Courage.’” Miranda adds, “For this record, we saw a theme and a story slowly building with each track into a cohesive whole.”

Time for Two has been co-produced by Miranda and Soans and includes a retro sound while R&B, soul, funk and electro-dance music creep in at times. “We’ve worked tirelessly to get the retro-modern pop sound to tie the songs together and chase the nostalgia in everyone’s hearts,” says Miranda.  

According to Miranda, the EP covers themes of “expansion, transformation and ascension.” The musician explains that at times he felt that he was only good enough to be a session guitarist. He says, “Not having a voice to say anything on my own, to breaking through of my comfort demons that I had befriended along the way and then realizing there’s a whole world I didn’t have courage to know existed within me.” The artist adds, “My tree of life spreads its branches to find new sonic worlds to grow into harmonically, emotionally maturing to write about larger-than-life thoughts.”

Apart from Soans, Miranda also called upon singers Yamini Lavanian (heard on “Time for Two” and “Courage”) and pop duo Simetri consisting of Riya and Simran Duggal (“8-BIT Rules (Reprise)”) to come onboard the EP. Other artists to contribute to the record include drummer Aditya Ashok, bassists Rushad Mistry and Ralph Menezes, and keyboardists Beven Fonseca, Adrian D’souza, Natasha Pinto and Vatan Dhuriya. On his part, Miranda offers juicing guitar parts and scintillating solos.

Currently, Miranda is chalking out ways to take the music live at gigs and festivals for the upcoming season. There’s also an animated music video coming out soon for the record’s title track. The guitarist is also ready with more music too. He says, “We are actually already into production of a possible full-length album, which we plan to launch just before touring the live set. That will give us a good catalog of original tunes to tour the next couple of years.”
