Zygnema, Cosmic Infusion and Atmosfear To Perform At Mammoth Fest 2013

A show with seven bands is not a festival. Now that we’ve got that niggling detail out of the way, one of the reasons Mammoth Fest caught our attention was the name of the sponsor on their poster. When was the last time you saw a nationalized band or a jewelry store support a gig, let alone a metal show?

Mammoth Fest organizer Jeff Dani, who has been organizing gigs for three years, says very matter-of-factly that he got Shamrao Vithal Co-Operative bank and Mulund-based S Kumar Jewelers on board through references. Says Dani, “I got the reference to the director of [Shamrao Vithal] the bank from the Fire Monx [heavy metal band, also playing at Mammoth Fest] vocalist. She [the director] turned out to be a Pink Floyd lover and we got talking about music in general and told her we were organizing a gig.” S Kumar Jewelers were friends of Dani and agreed to sponsor Mammoth Fest, but it still leaves us guessing why any bank or jeweler would sponsor a metal gig. Says Dani, “We promised the bank data of 200 families ”“ like bands and attendees ”“ and told them they could set up a stall. With the jewelry guys, I just told them we would give them data and they could share their pamphlets.”

The gig, which will include performances by groove/thrash metal band Zygnema, death metal band Atmosfear, progressive death metallers Orion and black metal band Cosmic Infusion, among others, will be held at the Vashi Marine Centre, a venue that been hosting gigs for a decade. Adds Dani, “The captain [Partho Das, who owns Marine Centre] has always helped us [organize gigs]. He’s a big fan of Bhayanak Maut and Demonic Resurrection and keeps asking me if they’re playing, but I keep telling him they’re all out of my budget now.”

Zygnema drummer Mayank Sharma, who also plays for Atmosfear, gets behind the kit twice for the gig. Says Zygnema guitarist Sidharth Kadadi, “We’ve had many shows with Atmosfear ”“ straight from the competition days to today. He [Sharma] is an institute of stamina, really. It’s actually how he practises as well ”“ two jams with Atmosfear and Zygnema in one day.” For their set at Mammoth Fest, Zygnema will play from their Born Of Unity EP and newer songs, including “Shell Broken, Hell Loose,” “Invidious I,” and “Endangered.” Says Kadadi about their next release, “We’re finishing pre-production by December this year. We have about seven to eight songs, and will write a few more. It’s been three years since Born Of Unity released, but we thought we might as well take another three months to work on it [new material]. We’re sticking to our own sound, but the new stuff has power grooves.”
