Mumbai groove/thrash metal band Zygnema clinched the top two of three awards at the seventh annual G-Shock Rolling Stone Metal Awards, winning in the Best Band and Best Album category for their 2015 album What Makes Us Human is Obsolete. Kolkata metallers Yonsample, who released their single “Tibro” as part of their debut full-length Extropy, took home the Best Song at RSMA.

Bengaluru thrash/death metallers Inner Sanctum, who released their long-awaited debut album Legions Awake shared the top honor of two awards at Hard Rock Cafe Worli, with guitarists Chintan Chinnappa and Suraj Gulvady and drummer Abhinav Yogesh bagging the Best Guitarist and Best Drummer Gibson Flying V trophy.

Among the performing bands, both Mumbai Stone age metallers Primitiv [Best Vocalist was Nitin Rajan] and Bengaluru sludge band Shepherd [Best Album artwork] took home awards in addition to delivering destructive sets, both slow and heavy in equal measure.

The night was a mix of heavy, fast and slow, from the somewhat nervous tech death metallers Gaijin premiering material from their first self-titled EP to the breakdown-heavy raucousness of Delhi hardcore band Grammy Winning Effort.

Among a diverse lineup of winners, this year also included Mumbai heavy metal band Albatross’s Dr. Hex in the Best Bassist category and Chennai symphonic black metal band Diabolus Arcanium’s Archon in the Best Keyboardist category.  Check out the full list of winners below and stay tuned for detailed coverage.
