Music diplomacy has so far brought many big-ticket artists to the country. Last year, Oz Fest, organized by the Australian embassy, saw prog rock band Karnivool and this week, Grammy nominee Gotye will perform in Delhi on February 6th. The India-Norway cultural relations have brought great news to black metal fans with acts like Satyricon [in 2008] and Enslaved [in 2007 and 2010] performing in India as part of The Great Indian Rock festival.

In turn, Indian metal acts such as Demonic Resurrection [2010], Bhayanak Maut [2011], Scribe [2010] and Undying Inc [2011, 2012] have played at Inferno Metal festival in the past. Next month, as part of this exchange programme of sorts, Mumbai groove metal band Zygnema will perform at the Inferno metal festival in Oslo on March 28th. Zygnema will be the fifth Indian band to play at Inferno, performing a 30-45 minute set at the John Dee stage at the festival. “We received the invitation [to perform at Inferno] a month ago, but we only got confirmation now, so we’ll start the visa process,” says guitarist Sidharth Kadadi, who adds that he’s looking forward to catch the likes of Satyricon and death metal band Deicide. Other names announced to play at Inferno include metal/hardcore band Purified In Blood, Swedish heavy metallers Ghost and Norwegian black metal band Dark Funeral.

This will be the band’s third visit to Europe, following performances at Germany’s Wacken Open Air in 2012 and a two-date tour in the city of Osnabrück in 2011. Ahead of their performance at Inferno, the band may release new material. Says Kadadi: “We have recorded four tracks, which just need the vocals to be done. We’re looking to have about 8-10 tracks by the end of the year, but I personally want three songs out before we head to Norway.”

Zygnema performs on the John Dee stage at 7.15pm at Inferno Metal Festival in Oslo, Norway on March 28th, 2013. Inferno Metal Festival takes place from March 27th to 30th. More details here.
