Hear Mumbai Singer-Songwriter Parth Gadhvi’s Poignant Debut Single ‘The One’
The musician’s first release is replete with calming acoustic guitar plucking, strings and his soothing voice
When Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Parth Gadhvi’s mother enrolled him for guitar classes at the age of 16, it was more so for him to have a hobby while juggling his academics. However, the now 21-year-old says, “But when weeks turned into months, the roles between studies and music had definitely reversed.” Soon, Gadhvi began writing songs and attended over 100 open mic nights around the city. He adds, “My main aim was to get over my nervousness and become a better performer.” Last week, the young musician released his emotional debut single “The One.”
Gadhvi penned the track two years ago and he explains that the song is about the innocence of first love. “Driven by melody and optimism, this song takes you through a journey of joy as well as insecurity,” he says. “The One” opens with delicate acoustic guitar plucking before we’re immersed into the singer-songwriter’s calming vocals. As the track progresses there’s a beautiful string section that comes up during the bridge. Gadhvi says, “The violins really bring out the uncertainty that is to follow with the lyrics.”
The singer-songwriter recorded the track at Mumbai’s FARR Studios with producer David De Menezes, who also mixed the song. “David brought all my ideas to life and I don’t think the arrangement would’ve sounded as good without him,” says Gadhvi. The song was then mastered by musician Vishal J Singh (from avant-garde acts Serpents of Pakhangba and Amogh Symphony). On working with Singh, Gadhvi says, “He was very professional in his approach and gave us exactly what we were looking for.”
Next, Gadhvi wants to explore more sonic ideas while also working on two more tracks with De Menezes, an alt-rock offering and a pop song. The musician is also eager to get back on stage and perform live again. He says, “I hope our country overcomes this pandemic once and for all, and that musicians can earn their bread and butter.”
