Watch Red Velvet’s Magical Video for ‘Queendom’
The track marks the South Korean girl group’s first comeback since their 2019 hit, “Psycho”
Ushered by vivid, animated cinematography and upbeat synth-pop, Red Velvet’s latest track “Queendom” sees the group carry the baton of summer with bubble gum pop. The track serves as the lead single from their EP of the same name.
“Queendom” offers listeners strength with its feminist-centric message, “We are Queens in the red castle/ Don’t need crown, we were born to dazzle.” While summer songs usually steer closer to themes of love, Red Velvet shift the narrative, focusing the spotlight on the co-existence of sisterhood and individuality.
In the music video for “Queendom,” the quintet seem to be running a mystical lost and found empire filled with magic, dreamy pink sets and peppy choreography. The track begins with vocalist Wendy singing, “Hey, here we go again/ Under the dazzling sunlight/ You smile brightly like a child.” As the video unfolds, the members are seen performing their respective tasks as sorceresses. The clip concludes in a celestial setting, with Red Velvet regrouping against a starry backdrop for their final message of ‘unity in diversity’–“Even if it rains, strong and beautiful/ Rainbow completed in all different colors.”
Queendom is the long-awaited follow-up to the group’s 2019 album The ReVe Festival: Finale and features five additional tracks titled, “Pose.” “Knock On Wood,” “Better Be,” “Pushin’N Pullin’,” and “Hello, Sunset.”
