Fresh off his stellar performance with a horn section and backing vocalists at the first edition of Lollapalooza India last month, Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Tejas is now all geared up to take his music on the road as part of his five-city ‘Some Kind Of Nothing’ tour.

The tour’s title is taken from the artist’s newest single. Although Tejas — who we spoke to about what it’s like to play live gigs as an independent artist in India last year — is known for his polished pop sound as heard previously on his EP Small Victories (2014) and full-length albums Make It Happen (2017) and Outlast (2021), with “Some Kind Of Nothing” he delves deeper into the pop realm with bubblegum soundscapes, upbeat and catchy melodies, slick production, honeyed vocals, harmonies and more.

“Some Kind Of Nothing” follows the musician’s 2022 single “As I’m Getting Older.” Speaking to us about the new track, Tejas says, “‘Some Kind Of Nothing’ is a song that was written after I felt I was spending more time trying to figure my social media than trying to become a better musician. Sometimes these platforms and the demand to keep up with your peers take you away from actually honing the craft of being a songwriter.” He adds, “I sometimes feel the act [of engaging with social media] is that act of taking really talented people and turning their potential into something fleeting and often meaningless, when they could be making something else.”

The new song features Tejas’ longtime bandmates, drummer Jehangir Jehangir and bassist Adil Kurwa, both of whom also co-produced the track with the singer-songwriter and recorded it at Mumbai’s Island City Studios.

Both Jehangir and Kurwa are even set to join Tejas on the road for the Some Kind Of Nothing tour. Although Tejas’ Lollapalooza set was also officially part of the tour, the trio is due to perform at New Delhi’s Depot 48 on February 11th, EXT in Hyderabad on February 12th, a hometown gig at Mumbai’s antiSOCIAL on February 16th followed by a set at Bengaluru’s Fandom at Gilly’s Redefined the next day, before finishing up at antiSOCIAL in Pune on March 12th. About hitting the road, Tejas says, “I’m excited to be taking our current set as it stands on tour, and even though it’s back to basics with just the trio for a few shows, it’s nice to go old school and play clubs again.”
