Netflix dropped the trailer for action-thriller film Extraction earlier this evening. Set to stream globally on April 24th, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth (for the unacquainted — Thor in the MCU), David Harbour (Stranger Things), Pankaj Tripathi (Sacred Games), Rudhraksh Jaiswal (Noor, Mahabharat), Priyanshu Painyuli (Upstarts) and more. In Extraction, mercenary Tyler Rake (Hemsworth) sets out to rescue the kidnapped son (Jaiswal) of an international crime lord. Both lives are inextricably linked and altered as drug traffickers and weapons dealers make an already deadly mission damn near impossible.

The clip opens with a serene shot of Rake meditating on a lakebed before he gets a call from his handler (Golshifteh Farahani) who tells him of the bloody rivalry between the biggest drug lords in India (Tripathi) and Bangladesh (Painyuli). The latest development in the saga is the kidnapping of the Indian drug lord’s son Ovi. Rake’s task is simple — extract the kid. We see Rake bust into a seedy flat where he guns down the abductors and rescues Ovi, but the bulk of their challenges have just begun. “You want to survive.. you do exactly as I say,” Rake tells Ovi at one point. High-octane chase sequences ensue with rocket launchers and guns going off. Rake and Ovi form a bond as they fall out of a truck together, patch each other up and run away from the baddies. At one point, Rake’s handler tells him, “The job is fucked, Tyler,” and as the odds stack up against them, he decides to confront his past demons and protect the kid no matter the consequences.

Hemsworth told USA Today that his character’s task “awakens something within him that he’s buried and pushed aside for many years” following the loss of his own son. He further added, “He’s come to terms with the fact that his number could be up any second. The innocence and purity from this young kid reminds him that there’s still more to do on Earth before he departs.”

Yesterday, Hemsworth also shared a special message for his fans in India while announcing that Extraction’s trailer would exclusively premiere on Netflix India’s YouTube Page, followed by the rest of the world. “Namaste India. Chris Hemsworth here, coming to you all the way from Australia. My time in your country during production was unforgettable and I was so looking forward to returning,” he said. The actor, who was set to visit India for a two-day promotional event before its cancelation due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, added, “It was an honor to work alongside some of your best local talent to make this movie possible and I can’t wait for you all to see it. Sending you lots of love and good thoughts. To everyone around the world, stay home and stay safe. Be well.”

Sam Hargrave makes his directorial debut with Extraction, having previously worked with Hemsworth as a stunt coordinator and second unit director on Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Extraction is produced by Endgame co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo (the latter also penned the screenplay) alongside Hemsworth, Mike Larocca, Eric Gitter and Peter Schwerin. The film was extensively shot in Ahmedabad and Mumbai in India as well as Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand. Extraction also stars Manoj Bajpayee (The Family Man) and Randeep Hooda (Highway).
