Aman Sagar Wins the JioSaavn Spotted Hindi Category
The New Delhi artist’s song ‘Tere Irade’ is based around modern romance
For New Delhi singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer Aman Sagar, just making it to the Top 15 of talent hunt JioSaavn Spotted was an honor in itself. But Sagar has now managed to go one step further and win the Hindi category of the competition for his glossy pop song “Tere Irade.” Speaking about the win, Sagar says, “It is a very humbling experience, considering how well-written and produced all the other shortlisted songs were.” He adds, “I’m glad that the team at JioSaavn and the judges – Salim Merchant, Jonita Gandhi, Papon and DIVINE, who are obviously all brilliant musicians – liked my song! It’s also a huge privilege to get to release the song with Warner Music India and I’m very grateful to them for supporting independent artists like myself.”
An independent artist through and through, Sagar recorded a majority of the song in his bedroom, except for the vocals and guitar parts which he tracked at Renaissance Records in New Delhi. The musician also produced and mixed the track himself. He says, “The entire process of making a song, from writing it to the master, is very unified and it all bleeds into each other.” According to him, “Tere Irade” is based around modern romance and was written just a few months ago. “JioSaavn Spotted inspired me to actually finish producing it,” he says. Sonically, the track includes indulgent pop production, urban soundscapes, Sagar’s honeyed vocals and more.
Over the last year, the musician has worked on a host of collaborations with artists such as Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Prabhtoj Singh, Andrea Tariang and others. He says, “Collaborations are a great way to get out of your comfort zone or rather crash at someone else’s comfort zone temporarily. I enjoy collaborating with singer-songwriters as much as I love working with hip-hop artists, and it gives me the freedom and ability to work outside of my own limitations as an artist.” Sagar already has two hip-hop/R&B collaborations coming out next month.
However, the tides are changing for him as he is also gearing up to release a fresh batch of songs as solo material. “The plan is to put out my own music, work on a visual aesthetic and also some carefully curated collaborations, and hopefully build something cohesive,” says Sagar. He adds, “I also wish to get back on stage and start playing some shows.”
