BTS Drop Ethereal New Comeback Trailer Titled ‘Serendipity’

The clip features the South Korean group’s member Jimin singing solo as he flits through multiple dimensions of space and time

After teasing fans with a nail-biting two-day countdown on their website over the weekend, K-pop group BTS have revealed “Serendipity,” the comeback trailer for their upcoming mini-album Love Yourself 承 ”˜Her’.

While BTS’ three rappers Rap Monster, Suga and J-Hope have always performed the introduction tracks to the group’s albums, it would seem they are handing over the reins to the vocal line from here on; “Serendipity” focuses on vocalist Jimin as he flits through multiple dimensions of space and time, juxtaposing pastel-toned daylight shots with neon, starry night skies. The video’s detailed and dream-like visuals have also drawn comparisons to French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s 1943 novel The Little Prince:

Jimin’s breathy vocals are accompanied by slow R&B instrumentation while the lyrics (penned by the group’s leader Rap Monster) are wistful and intimate words to a lover””indicative of the group’s resolve to explore themes around romantic love with Love Yourself 承 ”˜Her’. As of this article, “Serendipity” has crossed 6.6 million views on YouTube and counting, less than 24 hours after its release.

Although the mini-album only comes out on September 18th, it has racked up more than 1.05 million within a week in sales of physical copies through pre-order alone, a testament to the group’s unstoppable growth in popularity. In comparison, the boy band’s previous release You Never Walk Alone (which released in February this year) had peaked at around 700,000 physical copies for preorder. Love Yourself 承 ”˜Her’ is also currently number one on Amazon’s CDs & Vinyl Best Sellers list in the U.S., having held the position since BTS’ company Big Hit Entertainment announced the album’s availability on the platform last week.
