Just as metal takes over the weekend with the first edition of BIG69 in Mumbai, metalheads have more to look forward to this year, with the first edition of CultFest being announced to take place in April in Bengaluru. CultFest 2015 will feature headline sets by American death metal band Cannibal Corpse and American deathcore band Suicide Silence.
Cannibal Corpse, who released their 13th full-length album, A Skeletal Domain, in September last year, and Suicide Silence, who released their fourth album You Can’t Stop Me in July, are both set to make their India debut at CultFest, which is organized by Bengaluru-based live entertainment firm Bohemian Live.
In an interview earlier in 2014, Cannibal Corpse drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz spoke about their interest in playing in India. The drummer told ROLLING STONE India, “We know a bunch of bands that are going to India. We know there are festivals happening there. There’s a big death metal fanbase out there and we hear about it a lot. We get a lot of mail from India and I’m sure we’ll go there. I could speculate about going there ”“ just to play in front of fans who have been waiting their whole lives and never thought a band like us would go there. We know how special it would be.”
The band’s association extends to their co-headliners Suicide Silence as well ”“ Cannibal Corpse vocalist George Fisher aka Corpsegrinder contributed vocals to the song “Control” off You Can’t Stop Me, which was the band’s first record to feature new vocalist Eddie Hermida, who joined the band in 2013 after original vocalist Mitch Lucker died in an accident in 2012.
Cannibal Corpse and Suicide Silence perform at CultFest 2015 in Bengaluru on April 11th, 2015. Entry: Rs 1,350 (early bird), Rs 1,850. More event details to be confirmed. Buy tickets here.
