Legendary pianist Louiz Banks, guitar ace Adil Manuel, jam band The Revisit Project and more will mark the occasion
After two years of online gigs and livestreams, International Jazz Day – which falls on April 30th – is headed to live audiences in 2022. We’ve got you covered on the best places to catch the gigs and favorite local jazz artists.
International Jazz Day Celebrations at antiSOCIAL, Mumbai
This weekend, celebrate International Jazz Day at Mumbai’s antiSOCIAL, curated by city-based guitarist Adil Manuel. This year’s lineup includes Manuel’s own big band collective as well as singer-songwriter duo Second Sight performing a full band set, experimental outfit Dark Circle Factory, the ARM Trio, vocalist Kokum, hip-hopper Shah Rule and more including Rimi Nique, Anubha Kaul, Rahul Wadhwani, Emmanuel Simon and Keshia B. The event is set to showcase fresh new talent, contemporary ensembles and collaborations that include a plethora of sounds encompassing everything from swing and bebop, to R&B, funk and hip-hop.

Louiz Banks returns to NCPA, Mumbai
After 10 years of International Jazz Day gigs at Mumbai’s National Center of Performing Arts (NCPA), legendary pianist Louiz Banks is back once more to curate an 11th edition. The show will feature a huge array of artists spread over a span of three hours and include jazz standards to fusion songs performed by the likes of Banks himself, singer-guitarist Gary Lawyer, the Sassy Songbirds, the Rajeev Raja Combine, the Calcutta Collective, vocalist Vasundhara Vee and others.

Jazz Weekender at Gallery 1AQ, New Delhi
New Delhi community radio station Boxout.fm has teamed up with Wild City, Gatecrash, Art Unites and Jazz in India to put together a live music experience showcasing exciting homegrown and international jazz artists. The three-day extravaganza at the capital’s contemporary art-inspired lawns of Gallery 1AQ will see a lineup that includes artists such as Gino Banks and Rhythm Shaw, The Revisit Project, T.ill APES, The Jass B’stards, Tribemama Marykali, Boi Akih, Raj and more. The musicians on the bill are set to not only showcase their jazz chops but also cross over into neo-soul, R&B, fusion, electronic, big band and funk.

Key into The Piano Man Jazz Club, New Delhi
New Delhi’s The Piano Man Jazz Club is geared up to host some of the city’s finest musicians for a night full of jazz music for the soul. Singers such as Parvati Krishnan, Ilina Gandhi and Prabhtoj Singh will be joined by drummer Aditya Dutta, bassist Sonic Shori, keyboardist Arunava Chatterjee aka Shonai and guitarist Siddharth Gautam to bring you performances that promise to be magical.
