Italian Producer EDX Kicks Off India Tour This Week
Maurizio Colella returns to India for a tour that includes new cities, new hits and a new sound
What does it mean to be one of the biggest names in electronica today? For Italian house producer Maurizio Colella, who performs under the alias EDX, it equates to 20 shows in 30 days across three continents and absolute insomnia. Says the artist, “It’s tiring, but it’s really fun.Being a worldwide touring DJ has to do with a great audience and also the music that they love you for.”
Colella, who began producing in 1994, has worked with the world’s most influential musicians that includes everyone from American popstar Beyonce to Italian house producer Benny Benassi. Says the artist, “Like everyone else, I’m working towards hit singles. It’s an ongoing thing to work on the music,to evolve and to stay relevant ”“ so I’ve been trying to develop EDX as a genre and I feel like I’ve been doing very well with that.” The producer, who made a name for himself with tracks such as “Breathin” and “Touched,” believes that electronica is something that continues to reinvent itself and draw from a range of genres ”“ citing everything from r&b, rock and even country as influences. Says the artist, “I have no idea where electronica movement will drive us, because if I did, I would be a genius. The good thing about music right now is that it’s becoming more melodic and less noisey.” As an artist who regularly ranks on the Beatport charts alongside artists such as Canadian electro house producer Deadmau5 and Swedish producer Eric Prydz, Colella shows no signs of slowing down, and already a worldwide roster of shows planned for the next year. Adds the producer, “I want my music to make people emotional, to be associated with the first time someone kissed their girlfriend or a roadtrip that made their summer. I want my music to make people smile.”
For his performance in Mumbai, Colella’s set will consist of tracks that he is currently listening to, his hits and deep house. Says the producer, “When you perform in a country like India, you get the option to be a little more flexible. When people come to your shows, they come for you, your production and what you know.” After the success his “Miami Sunset” remix of Swedish EDM producer Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” earlier this year, Colella is already has a series of releases planned for the coming months including collaborations with American house producer Sandy Rivera and British electronica dance group Above & Beyond.
