Electro-Rockers the Western Ghats Return with Funky R&B Single ‘Din’

Three months on since electro-rockers the Western Ghats released their debut track “Humne Bhi,” the group is now back with their latest funky R&B single “Din.” On not wasting time with releases, vocalist Aryaendra Shekhar says, “We decided to ditch the idea of a compiled album for this year and go with the singles format. Three months seemed like a perfect gap between the two singles.”

The band, who count Mumbai as their base, are now all back in their respective hometowns due to COVID-19. Keyboardist-producer Sunil George, guitarist Kaleb Shaji, bassist Rex David and Shekhar have also welcomed their new drummer Ritik Suntwal to the group.

Shekhar initially wrote “Din” while he was still in college but only revisited the piece recently. After countless drafts of working on the track from their homes, the band is now quite content with the way the song has turned out.

The vocalist says, “’Din’ is a song about dysfunctional relationships, old friendships, moving on from them and reminiscing on the good old times.” The track is filled with groovy guitar parts and vocal melodies, a swinging bass and drum groove, fun singalong sections, a slinky solo and more. “It was an instinctive feel that this should be really groovy and head bob-able song,” says Shaji.

Each musician recorded their parts at their own homes around the country while Shekhar tracked his parts at a studio in Lucknow. George produced the song from his place in Kerala while sound engineer Jayakrishnan Nalinkumar mixed and mastered the track. Next, the Western Ghats are prepping two English songs leaning towards more of an alt-rock sound.
