Artists who have released music in 2020 are eligible to apply for the award show

After a highly successful inaugural edition last year, that received over 300 entries from artists across India and abroad, award show The Indies returns for a second outing. The event – that recognizes independent musicians – will consider applications from artists who have released music anytime throughout 2020.
This time around, the organizers will be spreading out the awards across 21 categories. While the staple top honors such as Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and EP/Album of the Year will be watched closely, also up for grabs include genre-specific awards for Pop, Rock/Blues/Alternative, Metal/Hardcore, Rap/Hip-Hop, and Electronic/Dance music. The two new genre-specific categories introduced this year are Folk-Fusion and Instrumental music.
At last year’s edition, we saw the likes of Mumbai multilingual hip-hop crew Swadesi, singer-producer Lifafa, Mumbai/New Zealand guitarist Warren Mendonsa of instrumental blues-rockers Blackstratblues, producer Pulpy Shilpy and more all pick up an Indie for their efforts in 2019.
Just as The Indies brings a sense of recognition in some form to artists and a distraction away from the negativity brought upon due to the coronavirus pandemic, the award show also stands to celebrate all musicians who’ve overcome challenges and created stellar pieces of art during this time.
Artists can apply for entries via the form here. The last date to submit applications is July 31st.
