Whether it’s Kolkata pop artist Nischay Parekh or world music duo Maati Baani, Indian musicians are realizing that a good way to keep your audience hooked is to release content on a regular basis. YouTube’s India office is now giving upcoming artists a chance to know how to promote themselves and build a fanbase by uploading video content ”“ ranging from jam sessions to music videos.

YouTube’s Indie Music Outreach event, which takes place between November 7th and 15th in five cities across India, includes sessions by YouTube staff experts, musicians and a series of workshops on music video production. While the production workshops range from budgeting for a video to shooting on a mobile device, Gaurav Dobhal, YouTube Partner Manager, says members from YouTube India’s content team will speak to artists in person and their event partners, radio channel 93.5 RED FM will choose 20 artists to make a live music video. Says Dobhal, “YouTube is a must for an Indian band. We want bands to understand what the platform [YouTube] is about. Maati Baani, for example, used it to collaborate with people across the world.” Dobhal adds that they are currently confirming musicians to be part of the sessions, which take place at the Google India offices in Mumbai, Gurgaon and Bengaluru, while venues are yet to be announced for the sessions in Chennai and Guwahati.

Musicians looking to take part need a YouTube channel and can register for the workshops online here.
