Exclusive Premiere: Hear Young Hip-Hop Artists 2facebleed and Kartikay Turn to R&B on ‘Over Again’
Connecting over Instagram, the pair make an earnest plea for love on the bi-lingual track
Amongst the newer, fresher voices in Indian indie who have been making their mark within the past year, Chennai/Jamnagar hip-hop artist 2facebleed aka Niladri Chattopadhyay and New Delhi rapper-singer Kartikay Singh (who goes by his first name) come together for a suave R&B-leaning heartbreak track called “Over Again.”
The artists made first contact over on social media a few months ago. 2facebleed says he was already working on “Over Again” sought a collaborator. “I needed someone who was good with storytelling and that’s how my mind clicked for Kartikay. We’ve been following each other since last year and we appreciated each other’s work since the beginning but never got an opportunity to work together. This track made that happen,” the rapper says.
Kartikay – who had previously been tapped by guitarist-producer Sanjeev Thomas for his lo-fi single “Bure Khayaal” last year – says he keeps the audience in mind with every musical partnership. “When it comes to developing something new, a good collaboration means creating something unique for listeners,” he says. 2facebleed adds, “According to me a good collaboration happens unplanned so I don’t really have any norms or terms while collaborating with someone, it’s all about a vibe. If you match that with each other, you can start a fire in the studio.”
Sung in Hindi and English over music provided by American artist Hennen Beats, 2facebleed and Kartikay voice their anguish over a “crazy love wave.” While the track is mixed and mastered by Indian producer Tanishq, “Over Again” also has an animated lyric video made by graphic designer RK Films aka Rajat Kushwaha.
While 2facebleed terms his upcoming material in 2021 a “wave” with no particular genre to box him into, Kartikay says he’s got plans for a prolific year. “2021 means minimum 21 new songs you all are going to hear,” Kartikay adds.
