Fresh from their recording stint at Converse Rubber Tracks Studio in Brooklyn, the Shillong rockers resume their nationwide tour this week

Guitarist-vocalist David Kom talks about his band Dossers Urge’s trip from Shillong to Brooklyn as the most enriching thing, stuff right out of coming-of-age films and novels. The band, also comprising his brothers Gideon on drums and Romeo on bass, spent four days at the Rubber Tracks Studio in Brooklyn to record four songs as part of the winnings from band competition Road To Converse Rubber Tracks in April this year. “The people there made us very comfortable. Each one of us had our own engineer. We thought we were a really big band,” says David with a laugh.
The rest of the time, they spent couch-surfing (even though their planned host ghosted on them and they scuttled to find another last-minute) and exploring New Jersey, Philadelphia and New York. “I got introduced to a lot of hip-hop in Brooklyn and got myself an LP player and a lot of records.” The 25-day sojourn was “more of a holiday” for the band, captured in their latest single and music video “Erase,” which stomps through what sounds like a flitting folksy riff sent into overdrive.
The song will be part of their upcoming 10-track album, which also includes the four songs they recorded at Rubber Tracks studio. The new material was also showcased live last week in New Delhi, where Dossers Urge kicked off their tour, which travels to Bengaluru today. The band is debuting in all new cities on this tour, except for Kolkata, where they played once at a band competition in 2013. David says about their setlist, “Since we’re writing material every week, we end up playing these songs without lyrics, so it becomes like post-rock!”
After being surprised by fans in New Delhi who sang along to songs like “Jinx,” “Mother,” “Back to the River” and “Honest Rage” (which might just be the name of their album, according to David), the band is now playing in Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai and finally, at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender festival in Pune. David says, “Everything is coming together now. But thankfully, there’s no pressure. It’s just about having fun.”
