Directed and edited by vocalist-songwriter Bidisha Kesh, the wandering synth-pop song is from their recently released debut EP ‘Loveless’
Following the release of their debut EP Loveless in August, Bengaluru synth-pop/dream-pop duo Us and I say they took a “very easy decision” to shoot a music video for the track “First Love.”
The closing track was originally written keeping a visual story in mind, by producer-guitarist Gaurav Govilkar and vocalist-songwriter Bidisha Kesh. “Having vivid references from our personal lives, we literally wanted to draw a picture of our memories and the uncertainties that had followed with it,” says Kesh, who directed and edited the video.
Among the cues for the “First Love” music video was a photograph from 2009 which was taken at the Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception in Panjim, Goa. Kesh adds, “It was like Saudade, Portuguese for a nostalgic longing to be near again to someone that is distant, or that has been loved and lost; the love that remains.”
Featuring a cast of two characters played by Arti Sachdev and Sandeep Patil, footage from Goa, Bengaluru and Indonesia make it to the video, which builds upon snapshots of a couple and their adventures. “With our shaky hurried visuals we intended to emote how we are suspended in a phase of anxiety and helplessness when we face the reality of losing our first love,” Kesh adds.
While there won’t be another music video from Loveless EP, Us and I are working on their follow-up release. Kesh says the next material might see another music video. She adds, “Whatever comes organically.”
