Mumbai’s antiSOCIAL is set to witness a brand-new gig series called Cave Culture Vol.1 on February 17th, 2022. The venture has been put together by the fresh on the scene Mumbai indie musicBrave Cave and Pune-based music label Maaya Sound.
Brave Cave’s Samarth Bahl (frontman of Mumbai neo-soul/alt-pop band Smalltalk) tells us that the challenges faced through the pandemic, coupled with there being a lack of supportive infrastructure for independent artists led to the formation of the label. He says, “Brave Cave seeks to provide this infrastructure that aims to be empowered by a community. While we know this is no small task, we plan on taking one small step at a time.” He adds, “Cave Culture is one step in that direction, by providing artists everything they need to express themselves on stage, we seek to build a community around these live performances and introduce artists to newer audiences.”
Those audiences will be treated to a versatile lineup of artists for the gig series’ first edition that includes Manipur origin artist Martin Haokip aka Lojal, Mumbai-based singer-songwriter duo Second Sight, vocalist-producer Perp, house/techno artist Stick No Bills as well as Bahl’s solo avatar Papabear.
On how the organizers went about bringing these particular artists together, Bahl says, “The artist lineup showcases some of the most talented live acts in the country right now, while at the same time providing a platform for artists who are taking their music to the stage for the very first time. We have kept this balance in mind while picking the lineup.”
While attendees can expect “unique and expressive performances,” away from the music Cave Culture will also feature three popup stores such as Sneaker Shrine who source rare sneakers, handmade crochet garments from Sweet Nothings Crochet and screen-printed khadi t-shirts by Bare Bones Living.
