The UK prog metallers will make their India debut in December as part of I.I.T. Bombay’s annual cultural festival
London prog metal favorites Haken are adding the prog touch back to I.I.T. Bombay’s long-running Livewire nite this December, headlining the live band event of the institution’s festival Mood Indigo.
The band will perform on December 22nd at I.I.T.’s gymkhana grounds, following a formidable number of prog and metal Livewire headliners from around the world. That includes UK’s Porcupine Tree, U.S. artist Neal Morse Band and Mike Portnoy, Australian act Karnivool and Dutch band Epica.
Haken””who have built their way to up a prolific and consistent reputation in prog since they released their debut full-length Aquarius in 2010””released their latest in 2016, the well-lauded Affinity. The album retained Haken’s classic, epic-scale prog influences but also employed Eighties-era synth on the heavy, on songs such as “Initiate,” “The Endless Knot” and “Earthrise.”
Comprising vocalist Ross Jennings, guitarists Richard Henshall and Charles Griffiths, bassist Conner Green, drummer Raymond Hearne and keyboardist Diego Tejeida, Haken also shot to fame for their playful, theatrical prog rock song “Cockroach King,” off their 2013 album The Mountain.
Mood Indigo’s Concerts head Nikhil Vaidya says more than an obvious bent for prog music, Livewire curators always try to experiment with bands across genres. He says, “Haken is a many-faceted band with a very unique sound – some of their work is song-oriented, sometimes avant-garde, often heavy and have become a major name on the prog scene. That has been the major motivation for zeroing them down to headline the Livewire Nite 2017.”
Haken performs at Livewire Nite on December 22nd, 2017 at I.I.T. Bombay’s Gymkhana Grounds. Entry: Rs 639. Buy tickets here.
