Hear Roshan George Thomas Trio’s R-Rated New Blues Track ‘Bedlamb’
The Chennai indie act led by the producer, composer, vocalist and guitarist have now released five out of 10 songs all recorded before the lockdown
In true blues fashion, Chennai’s Roshan George Thomas Trio are out with a seductive, tempestuous song of lust and love called “Bedlamb.” Releasing officially on April 24th, the song premiered on YouTube yesterday and you can hear it below.
Frontman Thomas says the song might concern itself with a few metaphors, but it’s otherwise straightforward about praising and wooing a woman. “’Bedlamb’ is an attempt of a song to encapsulate a baser primordial desire that one could not escape, but only let be consumed by until the high was ridden out.” He refers to an “incessant, unapologetic craving for a muse that could not be” as the subject of the track.
Delivered through the trio’s familiar acoustic guitar-driven minimal yet groovy blues, “Bedlamb” is carried by Thomas’ seemingly put-on accent that perhaps heightens the mood just right. Ask Thomas about pronouncing words like “boy” in a very particular way to fit a melody and he says, “I’ve always leaned into articulating words differently, especially if the accentuated lyrical tonality of the verse gave me an idiosyncratic identifier as a singer and resulted in a more musical experience to the listener. It’s quite possible that I might have subliminally taken to it from listening to singer-songwriters like Dave Matthews, Sting and Michael Jackson.”
In the span of a year, this is the RGT Trio’s fifth single, following songs like “Would You Do It Again?,” “Home,” “Demon” and “River,” all of which were recorded starting late 2018. Thomas says they plan to release five more songs through 2020, despite the growing global pandemic. The next single called “You Could Have Fooled Anyone, But Me” will be out by the end of May. Thomas adds, “Aside from the goal of 10 singles released by 2020, we plan on stepping up marketing and promotions for the RGT Trio to give the Indian music scene one more thing to look forward to by the time things settle down back to a semblance of normalcy.”
