Hornbill International Rock Contest 2014 Announces Shortlisted Bands
Mumbai jam band The Family Cheese, Chennai rock ‘n roll band Grey Shack and Pune funk rockers Silver are among 29 bands selected to perform in Nagaland in December

The shortlist is out for 2014 edition of the Hornbill International Rock Contest, which takes place between December 4th and 7th this year in Kohima, Nagaland. All of 29 bands from across India, Nepal and the North East have been invited to take part in the ninth edition of the band competition.
Pune funk rock band Silver [who won Mumbai’s Independence Rock in 2008] and Delhi classic rock band Hypnosis [who regrouped after a six-year break in 2012] to Bengaluru alt/prog rock band 30 Ton Capacity, Delhi alt rockers Crazy Weather, Chennai rock ”˜n roll band Grey Shack and Mumbai jam rock band The Family Cheese, among others have made it to the shortlist. Bands selected from Nagaland include Kohima-based alt/math rock band Stereotype and Dimapur rock band Papersky. While the Hornbill Rock Contest went international only last year, Nepal metal band Rage Hybrid are the only band traveling to India to compete.
Shortlisted bands will compete for the top prize of Rs 10 lakhs, while second place winners receive Rs 5 lakhs and third place winners walk away with Rs 3 lakhs. While Kolkata rap rock band Underground Authority placed first at the contest last year, Nagaland post-indie rock band We The Giants and Chennai electro-rockers The F16s were runners-up. The Rock Contest, part of the week-long Hornbill Festival in Nagaland, includes performances by two British rock acts, including hard rock band UFO’s guitarist Vinnie Moore and rockers Smokie, best known for their 1973 hit “Living Next Door to Alice,”  who will also judge the competition.
