Hyderabad Pop Artist Peekay Brings Shimmer and Cheer on ‘Much Better’
Channeling a bit of funk and rap, the music video brings together young dance artists on the streets of the city
Celebrating the spirit of dance and a philosophy of uncomplicated living, Hyderabad-based pop singer-composer Peekay aka Pranati Khanna has released her third single “Much Better” this week.
While she’s led with a hip-hop informed sound on her previous singles “Dunno” and “Good, Old Fashioned in Love” in 2020, Khanna first release this year leans in the direction of modern R&B, pop and retains a bit of rap. She says in a statement, “’Much Better’ is the kind of song you listen to first thing in the morning. It screams joy, laughter, simplicity and sass.” The track was produced by Khanna’s go-to producer, Jonathan Anand Wesley.
The artist says the song grew from things she gleaned after hanging out and playing cricket with kids who lived near her apartment and “fell in love with their spirit.” She adds, “The song aims at reminding people to look at the simplicity in life, rediscover the child within them and learn to be grateful for what they have and most importantly – dance!”
And dance they do, courtesy of a collaboration between Khanna and “opinion leaders” repping Red Bull in Hyderabad. Vaibhav Modi, Apooh Mahi, Akhil Mohan and Faria Abdullah all lead with Khanna in a glitzy club setting before being shown just as comfortable and joyous while dancing among kids in the bylanes of Hyderabad. In the music video directed and edited by Vipin Kumar, we see Khanna giving her soulful best in front of the mic, perhaps channeling a bit of the funk and soul-pop greats with a hook that’s got major earworm potential.
