Kanye West knows how to pick his moments. The rapper-producer surprise-released the minimalist new song, “Facts” on Thursday, New Year’s Eve. The news was first unveiled by wife Kim Kardashian, who tweeted, “YEEZY YEEZY YEEZY NEW SONG ABOUT TO DROP #FACTS.”
West blends current events with clever punchlines on the Metro Boomin- and Southside-produced track. In between ripping Nike and rhyming, “Does anybody feel bad for Bill Cosby?”, the rapper drops deft lines like, “I stick to my Roots like I’m Jimmy Fallon.”It’s unclear if “Facts” will appear on West’s upcoming album,Swish, which has yet to have a release date. West alludes to the wait on the song, rhyming, “I ain’t drop the album/But my shoes went platinum.”
With the release of “Facts,” West has now started a New Year’s tradition for new music. Last year, the rapper released “Only One,” the minimal, poignant track featuring Paul McCartney on keyboard, on January 1st.
West last released new music in October when he released two songs on SoundCloud: a new version of his  opener “Say You Will,” which featured violinist-singer Caroline Shaw, and his take on the Weeknd’s “Tell Your Friends.”
