Kimberly Lisa Van’Drine Releases Poignant Debut Single ‘Happiness’
The Mumbai singer-songwriter has also put out a music video to accompany the track
When Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Kimberly Lisa Van’Drine was riding in an Uber, she was struck with how cruel and unjust life can be. On one hand, the artist saw children with not enough food to eat for the day and on the other side, there were people whizzing by in their luxury cars. She says, “It got me thinking about how tiny things in our day make us feel like life isn’t fair and that we don’t have enough, but do we even begin to think about those on the streets who barely have anything at all?” With this train of thought Van’Drine got to penning the reflective “Happiness,” her recently released debut single.
The song opens with delicate acoustic guitar plucking by Hitesh Dhutia before we hear the singer-songwriter enter with emotional vocals. For the most part, “Happiness” retains its ballad effect while Van’Drine’s voice opens up beautifully as the song peaks. The musician recorded it at Mumbai’s Media Minds Studios, and it was mixed and mastered by Darryn Van’Drine.
A music video – directed by Etienne Coutinho, shot by Vivek Chandeliya and edited by Jeremy Coutinho – was also released along with the track. The clip is filled with still images of a young girl called Saraswati, who is being taken care of by a Non-Governmental Organization [NGO]. Van’Drine says, “She has been unable to start her education because of her family’s financial conditions. The NGOs Divya Darshan and Rainbow Kids work to raise funds and help underprivileged children get an education and make a life for themselves.”
The young singer-songwriter has more material in her arsenal that she plans on releasing in the near future. She’s also been collaborating with producers and other musicians too. “Hoping live gigs get back on track soon so that I can get back to performing live,” says Van’Drine.
