Listen: Street Stories’ Bright New EP ‘Deaf Punk’
The Shillong pop punk act have released their third EP ahead of embarking on the eight-city 2Stroke Tour this week
If you need a cure for the mid-day blues, Shillong pop punk band Street Stories have just the fix ”“ their third EP, Deaf Punk, dipped in some simple yet sugary sweet melodies that’s probably more pop than punk.
And that’s not just our verdict. The deliberately unaggressive sound of the five-track EP helped them decided on the title Deaf Punk. Says frontman Pezo Kronu, “It’s one of our most un-punk EPs. Even the lyrics are un-punk. It’s more about our lives.” That rings true from the stomping lead single “Bedroom Horror” to the danceable “You & I,” featuring Delhi-based punk band The Vinyl Records’ vocalist Cheyyrian Bark.
Street Stories channel the likes of pop punk bands such as Weezer and Blink 182 with the additional shimmer of synth courtesy producer Daniel Langthasa [from Haflong electro rap band Digital Suicide]. The EP was recorded at Dimapur’s Element Indie Records with Kevi Pucho [frontman of Nagaland indie rockers We The Giants].
Although Kronu mentions all songs have been road-tested live, they’re more looking forward to the rigors of touring, kicking off the third edition of the 2Stroke Tour alongside Delhi rockers The Circus in Delhi tomorrow. Says Kronu, “We were just waiting for it [the tour] to happen so that we can release this.”
