Everything You Ever Wanted To Ask Dualist Inquiry
Rolling Stone India invades the New Delhi producer’s home for an exclusive Q&A Session
When we watched Dualist Inquiry at various music festivals in 2012, we realized that his bright and cheery electronica tunes resonated with his generation of Gotye-loving 20-something fans. But Dualist was no one-hit machine, and surprised us with every release ”“ right from “Qualia” from his debut EP Dualism, released in 2011, to “Isoterra” on his debut album Doppelganger, released in 2013. The fact that he opened for EDM superstar deadmau5 didn’t impress us as much as his version of “Naane Daari,” Bengaluru folk rock band Swarathma’s disco-inspired track did. Like a synth-disco Molotov cocktail, the mix set the stage ablaze at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender in 2012 and we can tell you that we’d never heard a better electro folk collaboration in India.
With this new EP, Natural Disasters, Dualist Inquiry takes a detour with vocal-driven tracks. We’ve already taken to the track “Departure” and hope that when he takes to stage for a four-city tour this week, he’ll only have more surprises in store.
Watch the Delhi producer talk about his music, his inspiration and what it’s like to be electronica’s poster boy:
