NCT’s Jaehyun To Release ‘Forever Only’ on August 18th

The forthcoming solo project was first announced during NCT's monthly news bulletin-stylized YouTube content 'NCT News'

Singer-songwriter and actor Jaehyun has announced the release date of his NCT Lab single. Titled “Forever Only,” the forthcoming single will mark his first solo project where the vocalist has also participated in writing the lyrics of the song. The single is set to release on August 18th at 6 PM KST (2:30 PM IST).

Part of NCT’s music achieving project, NCT Lab, “Forever Only” becomes the fourth single to be released under the NCT Lab banner. Previous singles include Mark’s “Child,” NCT U’s (Doyoung, Mark and Haechan) “Conextion,” NCT U’s (Taeil, Kun and YangYang) “Rain Day.”

According to Korean media outlets, the track is described as a “charming” R&B number underlined by Jaehyun’s dark, emotive vocals and repeated guitar riffs. As far as the songwriting goes, Jaehyun explores the juxtaposition between loneliness and companionship, sharing his desire of being around someone. While things remain unsettled and temporary in the real world, “Forever Only” seeks a permanent bond that will last for eternity.

While “Forever Only” will be Jaehyun’s first solo project where he is credited as a songwriter too, It is worth noting that the vocalist has co-produced and written “Lost (I Want You to Say)”- an unofficial, non-album single performed during NCT 127’s concerts. Other tracks where the singer has participated in a songwriting capacity include NCT 127’s fierce debut single “Fire Truck” and NCT U’s “Dancing In The Rain.”

In 2017, Jaehyun released his first SM Station single “Try Again” with d.ear as a featuring artist. The minimalistic pop ballad accentuated both Jaehyun and d.ear’s mellow vocalizations as they sang about second chances in a relationship. Going by his previous projects, Jaehyun has demonstrated his grasp over the spectrum of human emotions, especially complicated ones such as loneliness. With his raspy, deep-toned vocal range and “Forever Only’s” R&B production thrown into the mix, Jaehyun’s first solo project instantly becomes an August release you must have on your radar.

This past week, Jaehyun has been sharing multiple stories on his Instagram where the singer is seen playing the guitar. Donned in a black, oversized tank top, the singer plays soft, mellow guitar riffs, possibly giving fans a glimpse into the forthcoming single.

In other news, NCT 127 is all set to release their fourth album next month. According to SM A&R team unit’s head, NCT 127’s new album is “witty.” “Your attitude needs to show you’re witty,” NCT’s A&R head revealed during the YouTube content N Quiz on the Kwangya. She continued, “When you perform the song, you need to show that you’re witty and relaxed. From the lyrics, you can tell this person is witty”.
