New Delhi Artist Sheil Sagar Passes Away at 22

New Delhi multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Sheil Sagar passed away today due to causes yet unknown. He was 22. Friends and musicians from the independent scene in the Capital confirmed the news on social media.

Sagar rose to prominence within the Indian independent music scene with his shimmering acoustic debut single “If I Tried” last year, which has gone on to amass over 40,000 streams on Spotify alone. The musician followed that up with three more singles in 2021: “Before It Goes,” “Still” and “Mr. Mobile Man – Live.” The latter was recorded live and filmed during a soundcheck at The Piano Man Jazz Club in Gurugram.

A versatile musician in his own right, Sagar was known for his ability on the piano, guitar and saxophone, and as a producer-composer as well as his beautiful low-baritone voice. Sagar was also the former vice-president at the music society of Hansraj College where he actively engaged in the Delhi University music circuit. The musician also picked up awards, winning singer-songwriter competitions organized by the likes of Global Music Institute and Compass Box Studio over the past few years. Apart from his own music, Sagar even contributed his skills to other artists, most recently performing on Noida-based singer-songwriter Anchit Magee‘s just-released debut EP Adhoore.
