Mathangi Jagadish – Major Troubles in Minor Blues
Kolkata/New Delhi seasoned singer-songwriter Mathangi Jagadish offers plenty of jazz, blues and funk on her three-track debut EP Major Troubles in Minor Blues. The record includes soulful horn parts, rhythmic keyboard and guitar interjections as well as groovy drums and bass. On her part, Jagadish’s honeyed vocals stand out. In a statement, the artist said, “Each track brings a unique perspective on the struggles of life.”
Sukhnidh – “I Think I Need to Scream”
Mumbai/New Delhi singer-songwriter Sukhnidh’s sophomore single comes in the shape of the dream-pop track “I Think I Need to Scream.” Co-produced with Mumbai-based Rishi Thakker aka Dropped Out, the song includes earthy soundscapes, plenty of reverb as well as moody sonic elements. In a statement, Sukhnidh said, “[The song] explores emotional repression, lost potential, and failure through eclectic lyrical choices.”
NISHA – The Pursuit of Happiness
U.S.-based artist NISHA has recently released their nine-track debut album The Pursuit of Happiness. Across the record, there are elements of pop and rap while NISHA addresses their immigrant identity through emotional lyrics. NISHA co-produced the album with Alex Tirheimer aka Bumbasee. The Pursuit of Happiness also features artists such as U.K.-bred Pavan Mukhi aka PAV4N (from hip-hop/dubstep group Foreign Beggars) and Mumbai-based Yash Vaid (who co-produced “Keep Running”). In a statement, NISHA said, “The album fosters introspection as much as joy.”
Priyansh Gupta – “Uncertainty”
On his acoustic-pop debut single “Uncertainty,” New Delhi singer-songwriter Priyansh Gupta showcases plucked guitar parts, a scintillating electric guitar solo, indulgent production techniques as well as crisp vocals. In a statement, he said, “It [the song] reflects the ironical nature of uncertainty.”
