O Daapun Release New Pop-Rock Single ‘Skye’
The track is part of the Assam duo’s upcoming debut album ‘HIT – Hang In There’
Since we last spoke to Guwahati-based singer-songwriter duo O Daapun in 2021, the pair incurred a terrible tragedy in their personal lives. Brothers Siddhartha and Bhargav Hazarika sadly faced the untimely demise of their father. “We had to pause all our work after that, just so that we could heal ourselves from that loss and bounce back stronger,” says Siddhartha. The pair got back to working on and releasing music in 2022, which included the first single called “Prove You” off their upcoming debut album HIT – Hang In There. Now, the duo is out with the record’s second single, the pop-rock tune “Skye.”
Through the new song, Siddhartha taps into his own frustration of working a nine-to-five job that left him with no time to follow his passion and hobby of traveling. “I wanted to portray those occurrences through the means of a fictional girl named Skye, who the song is about,” he says, adding, “The song doesn’t talk about leaving your work life completely, but to find a good balance between a professional and personal life.” The song itself includes the soundscapes of pop, folk and rock as vibrant acoustic guitars and synths glue the track together while shakers, a tambourine and banjo parts sit well in the mix, as do the clean and crisp vocals.
Talking about the production process for “Skye,” Bhargav says, “For this song, I recorded its very basic acoustic guitar rhythm and melody in one project and Siddhartha started laying his lead vocals on that project. In another project, based on that same key and tempo, we were simultaneously doing the production of the song. So, the entire production with its final master was completed in about one-and-a-half months.”
O Daapun plan to release three more singles before the band drop the album in full in mid-2023. The pair will also be working on a few collaborations once the record is out and will begin playing gigs too. “We are really excited to release the entire album really soon. This is one of our dream projects and we want the album to resonate and connect with every individual who listens to it,” Siddhartha signs off.
