Photos: The Festival ft Karnivool, Underside, Aberrant and More
The Australian prog rock band wrapped up their three-city tour in Kolkata, performing alongside bands from Kolkata, Bengaluru, Nepal and Shillong
In its previous editions, a gig series simply known as The Festival has hosted international acts ranging from Guns N’ Roses guitarist Bumblefoot to Israeli psychedelic/electronic music duo Infected Mushroom to Finnish rockers Poets of the Fall. This year, they stepped up the game with Australian prog rockers Karnivool as headliners, with support acts including Nepal groove metallers Underside, Shillong metal band Aberrant, Bengaluru alt rock band Broken Membrane and local metal acts such as Yonsample and Chronic Xorn.
Karnivool, who were playing their third and final show in India as part of a three-city tour that included stops in Gurgaon and Chennai, gave fans in Kolkata a taste of their latest release, Asymmetry. Their visit this year marks their third trip to India, following their India debut at IIT Bombay’s Mood Indigo in 2011 and at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender in 2012. Considering the new cities they’ve played at this time and that vocalist Ian Kenny had earlier mentioned that a Mumbai gig was originally in the works, we get a feeling the Aussie rockers will be back soon.
