Premiere: Akhil Sesh Levels Up on New Single ‘Rockstar Rasta’

Indian-born, Detroit rapper-producer talks about taking a "global approach" on future material

On his latest, American-Indian producer and rapper Akhil Sesh employs a distorted 808 beat over a hypnotic guitar line for “Rockstar Rasta,” which also delivers tongue-in-cheek praise for fettuccine pasta.

The new release comes via ShutEye Entertainment, Sesh’s new label with New York hip-hop crew A$AP Mob member A$AP Relli. Sesh adds, “I’ve also taken on an executive role as we are prepping releases for our other artists on the roster as well. With all the fire content coming soon, let’s just say its going to be a very hot summer.”

After the release of his slick and murky album Free My Shooter in 2018, Sesh has been taking to more single track releases over the past year, featuring some variation. “Rockstar Rasta,” for example, features a cartoonish likeness of British metal legends Motorhead‘s mascot and logo Snaggletooth. Sesh says the artwork is represents his changing influences. “Nowadays with hip-hop being oversaturated and somewhat stagnant, I look to other areas like metal and punk for inspiration. Specifically, [Motorhead frontman] Lemmy had a knack for melodic anthems while maintaining dark undertones, something I naturally gravitate towards while making my own music.”

At the same time, Sesh maintains that he’s made a conscious effort not to use explicit language in his music, which he says has “blossomed by innate pop star sensibility.” Watch the video below.
