Premiere: Black Letters Release Live Version of ‘Some Do, Some Don’t’

The Bengaluru-based alternative act get creative with a reconstructed iteration of the track off their 2019 album ‘Still As You’

In the pandemic, we’ve seen alternative band Black Letters take to video content bearing their distinct visual and sonic signature over the last few months. First, they released a remix album of their 2019 record Still As You. Over on Instagram, there’s been green screen-employing stripped-down versions of songs old and new, including “You Say,” “Phila,” “Falter” and “Autumn Hue.”

In the course of kicking about ideas for more videos, they’ve now released a live version of “Some Do, Some Don’t,” shot and edited by Harikiran Menon (who’s helming bass duties for the band, in addition to producing under the moniker SuperPolite) and drummer Akash Chacko. The band says in a statement, “We enjoyed the process of breaking down and reconstructing this song because originally its an electronic track with a lot of drum machines and synthesizers. We wanted to head towards a more spontaneous feel and it naturally became simpler and organic with more guitars and drums.”

Although the clips on Instagram are just snippets, the release of the fuzzy, electronic-rock track “Some Do, Some Don’t” marks the first of more full performances of songs. The band adds that they’re working on a new “mini album” that is slated to release in early 2021.
