Mumbai band Midhaven bottle up their visceral prog/sludge and heavy metal-inspired sound in a live video performance of “Mahakaal” from Island City Studios. The song is taken from their 2021 album Of the Lotus & the Thunderbolt.
The video is the third and final release from their live performance recordings, following towering renditions of songs “Zhitro” and “The Immanent Effervescence of Sorrow.” Recorded by producer Apurv Agrawal, Midhaven’s guitarist-vocalists Aditya Mohanan and Karan Kaul, drummer Aviraj Kumar and bassist David De Menezes get together for the performance. For “Mahakaal,” Midhaven bring a balance of meditative post-metal-informed melodies, sludgy riffs and close it out with a scorching solo.
Guitarist-vocalist Aditya Mohanan says in a statement, “Since our album dropped during the pandemic, we were left high and dry when it came to playing music. So, recording the album live at Island City Studios and bringing it to our listeners felt like the best thing to do to get people to see Midhaven in all its relentlessness and intensity.”
The band performs in New Delhi next, as part of the comeback edition of Outrage Festival on August 12th. Midhaven appear on the bill alongside metal acts like Bhayanak Maut, Gutslit, Colossal Figures, Capital Metal Party and noise/grind/experimental act Konflicts.
