Priyanka Nath Shares a Piece of Her Heart on New Single ‘Oh Darling!’ 

Hyderabad-based singer-songwriter Priyanka Nath admits that releasing only two songs a year didn’t make sense for her anymore as an independent artist still trying to make herself known. So, for 2022, Nath decided to up her game and release as much music as she could. The year kicked off with the melancholic “Run,” followed by the folksy-pop “Stay With Me,” and now the musician is out with her third piece of music in 2022, the pop-rock offering “Oh Darling!” She says, “I definitely have more [songs] to go for the rest of the year too. The entire year was planned keeping in mind multiple releases.”  

Nath penned “Oh Darling!” this past March and put down her thoughts about moving on from a relationship through the song. The singer-songwriter says, “It centers around wanting to forget, but not being able to let go. Anger makes the process of letting go easier, but it doesn’t necessarily do you much good.” She adds, “I was writing from a place of grief, and penning down these lyrics would bring me some relief.” The song incorporates distorted electric guitar work, pop melodies, Nath’s effervescent vocals and more. “I like to think of it as the fun of the music canceling the sad and negative emotion in the lyrics,” says the artist.  

The hauntingly beautiful artwork for “Oh Darling!” – made by graphic designer Swapnil Kumar – sees Nath in the center of the frame with her hands on either end, which depicts her not letting go of the past. However, the hands reaching out to her “reflect a glimmer of hope, of wanting to get out of this jungle of a space which is clouded and crowded, and escape the darkness that’s flooded me inside-out.” She adds, “But an interesting point here is that all this while, while I’m trying to struggle with myself, the focus is completely on me and nobody else.” 

Although Nath plans to continue writing songs about love and breakups, she does, however, want to change things up. “I want to steer a bit away from the happy-sunshine-girl-writing-sad-songs vibe, just for a little while.” Her plan is to create more hard-hitting music and move away from the acoustic sound we’ve come to know her for. I might want to play around with a couple of genres. I think this want to make a sonic shift comes from a time when I was extremely angry. When I look back at this, I will remember the journey I took and the changes I had to go through to be where I am today,” she says.  

The singer-songwriter has been performing extensively in Hyderabad but is now keen on taking her music to other cities too. There’s also a music video Nath is plotting for an upcoming release. She says, “I think with that, you’d really know the multiple things that I can offer as an artist and as a performer.”
