Ratan Tata Recounts Meeting with Guitar God Slash
The Indian industrialist posted a photo on Twitter of the chance encounter with the Guns N’ Roses axeman in Los Angeles
Of all the rockstars you can spot in an instant, Slash is one of them. The Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver guitar great was spotted by Indian industrialist and entrepreneur Ratan Tata at a Galpin Jaguar dealership.
In a tweet posted earlier today, Tata — the former chairman of the Tata Group which had acquired Jaguar Land Rover in 2008 — recalled visiting the Galpin Jaguar outlet in the U.S. and finding that one of their buyers visiting that day was none other than Slash. “The day I visited Galpin Jaguar on one of my retail outlet visits, I was excited to meet this gentleman from Guns N’ Roses who was taking delivery of his new Jaguar XKR. A very polite rockstar, Slash.” The undated photo was clicked by American Galpin Jaguar executive Brian Allan.
Of course, this wasn’t even Slash’s first tryst with Indians or India. At the launch of MTV India in 1996, Slash was a guest star, even getting on stage to perform with rock favorites Indus Creed in Bengaluru. While another lineup of Guns N’ Roses had hit India for rousing concerts in 2012 (minus Slash, but led by frontman Axl Rose), Slash himself made it down with his band, featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators in 2015.
Slash, who teamed up with Kennedy — the vocalist-guitarist of hard rock/metal band Alter Bridge — performed in Bengaluru and Mumbai in 2015, promoting their album World on Fire. He told Rolling Stone India about being back in India, “It’s fucking great. It’s always been a big deal for me; there is so much magic. I always wanted to come back and now I finally got a chance to. I feel like a kid in a candy shop.”
Slash ft Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators’ next album, simply titled 4, will release in February.
