See Shia’s Silky New Video for ‘Boon’

The track has been produced by Mumbai artist Zero Chill

Mumbai singer-rapper Shia’s tryst with music began when she was in the sixth grade playing the guitar. The artist has been writing songs and singing since the age of nine and was even part of her school band. However, it was only after she began attending gigs and cyphers in college that Shia felt the need to release her own music. With two singles already to her name – “Jah Blessings” (2020) and her collaboration with fellow artist Nahra on “Metamorphosis” (2021) – Shia is now out with her latest track, the fierce “Boon,” released via New Delhi rapper Prabh Deep’sPurple Wav.

Since the release of “Metamorphosis,” Shia has been honing her skills as an artist and even took a step back from performing live to focus on writing and releasing music. It was through that process that “Boon” came to be. Mumbai producer Zero Chill laid the foundation for the song with a gritty beat juxtaposed with piano motifs. On her part, Shia delivers fiery rhymes and catchy melodies to create an energetic yet tasteful soundscape. Talking about the song, she says, “The main message of this is to establish my sound as a rapper and dismiss drug abuse and self-pity, two things I personally struggle with a lot.”

On working with Zero Chill, Shia says, “Zero Chill is one of the most modest and talented producers I have come across in my life. When I work with him, I’m usually too mesmerized by the way he can make a beat in less than 15 minutes.”

The artist has also released a slick music video shot in Mumbai that sees her performing the song on a boat, at the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Tao Art Gallery and Atria Mall. About her experience making the video, Shia says, “The makeup artist was falling sick in the boat and my team was running around in the heat carrying that heavy equipment.” She adds, “To do this at zero cost, I think that in itself is a feat for the whole team.”

Next, Shia plans on releasing songs at a quicker pace as well as returning to playing gigs and even collaborating with other artists. She says, “I’m ready to grow and jump to the next level now. The hustle has now begun.”
