Shadow & Light, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya and The Revisit Project Rep India at HowTheLightGetsIn Festival

Held in specific time zones suited to New Delhi, New York and London, the two-day festival wants "debate and dance" sans borders

Usually held in Wales and London, British festival HowTheLightGetsIn has been in action for more than a decade, presenting philosophy as well as music. Owing to the pandemic, the festival has now shifted online and already hosted its first digital edition in May. Now on to their second online outing, HowTheLightGetsIn Global will host artists, speakers and philosophers from across continents for a livestream version on September 19th and 20th.

Offering three different programs of events across time zones in New Delhi, London and New York, the festival is also opening up to invite live and pre-recorded sets by Indian artists for the first time. Fusion duo Shadow & Light, singer-songwriter Sanjeeta Bhattacharya and jazz-funk posse The Revisit Project are part of the lineup this time around. Top acts at the event include American singer-songwriter Judy Collins and London multi-instrumentalist Cosmo Sheldrake.

Events run 7:30 am to 2:30 am British Standard Time, moving from Delhi to London to New York over the day. The festival ensures that regardless of which timezone you are watching from, ticket buyers will get a full day’s festival program. There’s debates, talks and performances by artists, stand-up comedians and DJs with a total over 200 events across eight stages.

Speakers at HowTheLightGetsIn Global include the likes of economist Joseph Stiglitz, Indian lawmaker Shashi Tharoor, ecofeminist Vandana Shiva, celebrated artist Anish Kapoor, human rights defender Bianca Jagger and more.

Tickets are currently selling at tier 3 level, at £29.50 for general entry, while student festival tickets are available for £18.00.

HowTheLightGetsIn Global takes place on September 19th and 20th. More details here. Watch the trailer below.
