New Delhi alt rock artist Shivang Arora delves into the surreal on his angsty new song “I Killed a Man (In My Dream).”

The song, which marks Arora’s first release of the year, continues his rock leanings, informed by the likes of Nirvana, Porcupine Tree and Jeff Buckley, among others. Heightened by a fuzzy solo, “I Killed a Man (In My Dream”) was composed in October 202. Arora says he first recorded a live version of the song in Chandigarh in December of that year, followed by recording a more arranged iteration of the song with drummer Raghav Bhutani, guitarist Jerry Allen and bassist Ameen Singh.

He says about the song in a statement, ‘I Killed a Man (In My Dream)’ dives into the heavy feelings of guilt and regret through vivid storytelling and a powerful sound. The song tells a dream-like tale of making mistakes under a supposed trance, reflecting the weight of past actions. With its haunting melody and striking imagery, it captures the raw emotion and relentless remorse that follows, drawing listeners in with its introspective lyrics.”

The song follows his 2022 prog rock song “It’s Dark”  as well as the one-minute song “Broken Mirror” from last year. It wasn’t too long ago that Arora was concerned with a wholly different sound before shapeshifting into writing darker, heavier rock. In 2022, he also released his Hindi singer-songwriter EP Ye Pal. In the past, the artist has released everything from indie-folk (“Oh Darling,” “Ye Ajnabee”), fusion (“NKNSM” with Jeet Matharoo) to jazz-leaning songs like “Water Is Blue.”

Arora says, “I have another song coming soon after this, which has a collaboration with an artist I really look up to. I’m still working on one more song for this year, and have started working on my first album too.”
