Singer-songwriter Sid Sriram teams up with a list of heavy-hitters in American indie, including Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and Gayngs’ Ryan Olson for his lush new R&B-informed single “Do The Dance.” Dripping in Sriram’s distinctively emotive vocal melodies, the song is the first single off his upcoming album Sidharth, releasing later this year.
Shaped by the Chennai-born artist’s experimental sense of pop, soul, hip-hop and R&B, “Do The Dance” is Sriram’s first new piece of original music since his 2019 album Entropy. In between, while his work as a playback singer across languages has been prolific, he’s also featured on singles by independent artists such as Surii, Sanjeev T and sung for composer-lyricist Shantanu Moitra’s series Songs of the River – Ganga. In 2022, Sriram released a cover of Linda Ronstadt’s 1970 song “Long Long Time,” the first via majorDef Jam. A total of 10 artists are credited as writers on “Do The Dance,” including co-producer Alex Epton, horns by C.J. Camerieri and more.
Sriram took to Instagram to talk about the making of “Do The Dance.” He said, “I still vividly remember my second day ever in Minneapolis, being in Ryan Olson’s studio with him, Chris Bierden, Justin Vernon and Aaron Baum. As they landed on this chord progression, there was this magical, palpable joy pulsing through the room. The same joy flowed powerfully through every phase of creating this song. Making music with people you love is one of the truest joys in life. Lots more to come.”
That love has been a long-standing one for the artist, who even sampled Bon Iver’s song “Perth” on his previous album’s title track “Entropy.” Sriram – who has performed a few sets titled Boundless in India and in the U.S. in the last few months – will head out on tour in support of Bon Iver this August. With five shows in support of the indie/alternative band across the U.S., Sriram spoke about the tour. He said in a post, “Bridges built in magical, beautiful ways. Love, gratitude and excitement in abundance. Joining @boniver on their summer tour in August!! I love Bon Iver’s music so deeply and I can’t wait to go on this run with my brothers.”
