Exclusive: Steven Wilson, José González and Patrick Watson to Play Bengaluru Music Fest Backdoors

The Humming Tree is bringing down some of the biggest acts playing at Bacardi NH7 Weekender for a special show

Bacardi NH7 Weekender may have skipped its date with Bengaluru this year, but the city still has a chance to witness some of the biggest acts playing the Indian festival circuit this year, as they head to day-long music fest Backdoors on December 4th. Hosted by performance venue The Humming Tree, the outdoor experience is bringing down UK prog musician Steven Wilson, Swedish singer-songwriter José González and Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson to perform in the city shortly after their sets at the Pune leg of Weekender this December.

With Backdoors, Wilson gets a third India show (in addition to performing at the Shillong and Pune editions of Weekender), while González and Watson will visit a second city, apart from their Weekender set at the Pune leg of the music fest. The Humming Tree founder Nikhil Barua explains that the recent success of experimental jazz/rock trio The Aristocrats‘ India tour was a major factor in organizing Backdoors. He explains, “Backdoors as a theme was conceptualized as large shows with bigger artists who we truly love and now have the scope to bring down. We will give them and the audience a setting which is as comfortable and organic as possible, featuring great production in beautiful outdoor venues where nature plays a big part.” That may also explain the  “secret garden party” theme, which promises a “gentle way of letting the right people come in to see the right artist.”

In this year itself, The Humming Tree has hosted successful tri-city tours with the likes of English singer-songwriter Lucy Rose, English handpan master Daniel Waples and most recently, The Aristocrats. Says Barua, “We look back on 2016 with a lot of pride obviously… The artists we have and will be bringing down are our personal favorites. We want to build Backdoors into something that really does become synonymous with your nicest childhood memories, except with alcohol and music of course.”

Backdoors takes place on December 4th in Bengaluru. Venue TBC. Tickets and more details on Facebook and insider.in.
