The Kondoors Return with Fiery New Track ‘Good Times’

After releasing their debut four-track EP Fallen Angel last year, U.K. pop duo The Kondoors comprising musicians Jessica Greenfield and Gavin Conder spent plenty of time writing new material. In between Greenfield touring with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Conder building a studio in their garden, the pair signed with U.K.Fabyl Records with whom they’ve released their latest lip-smacking single “Good Times.”

The new track – which is the first peek at their forthcoming 11-track debut album Glorious – is a departure from what we’ve heard from them before and blends together the best of rock, funk and soul. There’s some serious guitar riffage, heavy drum work, a bass groove that hits you right in your face as well as the duo’s irresistible vocal harmonies. “Gav came up with the main structure of the song,” says Greenfield. Conder adds, “It was done in quite a random way, I wanted to write something that didn’t necessarily make much sense, but that sounded good to sing and had a feel-good, upbeat feeling to it”

Glorious was overseen by British producer Paul Stacey who has worked with Manchester rockers Oasis, Noel Gallagher and the Black Crowes. “We’ve both known Paul for a number of years now and have huge respect for him both as a musician, producer, mixer and all-round person,” says the duo. The Kondoors recorded the album at Wales’ iconic Monnow Valley Studios which has seen the who’s who of British rock and roll set up shop there, from Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin to Oasis and Queen, among others. Conder says, “We booked four days at the studio, but due to technical problems, could only record on two of those days and did the whole album.” According to Greenfield things got quite stressful at the studio but she says, “Paul has an incredible ear for sound and getting things right.”

Although The Kondoors don’t have a release date for their album set yet, we ask them why they decided to announce a new record less than a year since their last one dropped and Greenfield says, “I think in this industry, you have to get the ball rolling and keep momentum moving. Since signing to Fabyl we just wanted to put it out, especially in this time when everyone is at home.” The musicians don’t want to give much away just yet with what to expect from the album, but if the lead single is any indication of what’s to come, sign us up for more.

While at home the duo have been making the most of their studio set up in their house. “We’ve been surprisingly okay. Obviously, it helps to have each other,” says Greenfield. Going ahead the pair plan on doing a bunch of live sessions online, release lyric videos and engage with their listeners as much as they can during the quarantine. “It’s a shame that we can’t gig, but that’s the way it is for the time being. For now we just have to work with what we have!” says the pair.
