Music venue The Quarter, located in at the Royal Opera House in Mumbai, is set to launch monthly film screenings titled ‘Movie Night at Royal Opera House.’ Starting from this Saturday, January 13th, the series aims to showcase various rare films and documentaries that aren’t easily available to audiences and films that celebrate music and pop culture.

“There are a lot of music based films that are either very old or very rare and which are fantastic to experience together with others who share the passion of music,” says  Ashu Phatak, co-founder of The Quarter, adding that while the focus is currently on music-based films, they are open to including other genres eventually. “We just thought it’s worth a shot and if it works, we’ll try and do it on a regular basis.”

First on the list is Woodstock, the groundbreaking 1970 documentary about the festival of the same name. The Academy award-winning film chronicles 1969’s infamous Woodstock music festival’s inception and operations, and contains performances, interviews with artists and candid footage of fans in a defining portrait America in the Sixties. Artists who appear in the film (via performance or interview) include legends from the era like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Santana and many more. Woodstock was directed by Michael Wadleigh and edited by the likes of Martin Scorsese and Thelma Schoonmaker.
