The pre-release single marks the group's second English track and will be part of their upcoming 12th EP 'Our Youth'
K-pop hitmakers Twice have returned with a flirtatious song called “Moonlight Sunrise.” The pre-release single arrives one year and three months after the launch of their first English single “The Feels” and will be part of the nine-piece group’s upcoming EP Our Youth, out this March.
“Moonlight Sunrise” sees the group explore the ardent nature of love. If “The Feels” was an anthem for young love, “Moonlight Sunrise” is likely to be a recurring tune on your 3 am playlist. Produced by earattack and Lee Woohyun, the single exudes romance with a synth-pop arrangement, further intensified with house influences. The dreamy melody breathes life into the lyrics that explore the urgency of love. The dizzying love confession sees the members of Twice boldly confess their ardor; “Baby, I don’t really mean to rush/ But I’ma really need your touch/ If I’ma make it through the night/ I got the moonlight/ Tequila sunrise/ Uh, come take a shot on me, I got ya.”
Enhanced by gorgeous CGI, the whimsical music video sees the group wander around the picturesque interiors of a home at twilight. Guided by illuminating butterflies, Twice seem to be on a journey of uncovering hidden keys to unlock the door to their heart. As they journey through highways and pastel hallways, and seek assistance from tarot cards, they finally discover the keys and unlock the barrier.
“Moonlight Sunrise” serves as the group’s second official English single. Prior to the release of the first, “The Feels,” Twice released three English versions of tracks originally recorded in Korean – “Cry for Me,” “I Can’t Stop Me,” and “More & More.”
“The Feels” was well received by fans and enjoyed a sizeable slice of commercial success too, with the song accumulating 50.9 million global streams and 8,800 global downloads in its first week. It also debuted at the 12th spot on Billboard Global 200, making it Twice’s highest-performing song on the chart. “The Feels” also became the group’s first song to appear on Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, landing at 83 and 80 respectively.
According to a list released by Spotify last year, Twice was one of the most-streamed K-pop artists of 2022 on the platform globally, along with some of K-pop’s biggest acts such as BTS, Blackpink, Stray Kids and Seventeen.
