Starting today, Mumbai-based drumming ace Gino Banks joins a heavy-hitter list of sticksmen for a two-day virtual masterclass hosted by Furtados School of Music [FSM] on December 9th and 10th.

American drummers such as Todd Sucherman (from rock band Styx) and Dave DiCenso (who has worked with the likes of Duran Duran and guitarist John Petrucci), London-based Kaz Rodriguez (behind the kit for pop artist Rita Ora, Jay Sean and more) and 28-year-old Czech artist/educator Dali Mraz are slated to speak and offer insight to students. According to the Furtados School of Music, the course will cover relaxation techniques, attaining mental and physical control behind the drums and taping into “true potential” of young drummers who have enrolled.

Banks, for his part, says that virtual classes and masterclasses have been thriving during the pandemic. Since offline classes aren’t nearly feasible yet, he’s been teaching online at the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies’ School of Performing Arts as well as his own education platform called Algorhythm Drums. “Furtados School of Music and I go way back so it feels great to be part of this,” Banks adds.

Through the course of two days, Banks says the FSM Drum Camp will be a good opportunity for anyone looking to “advance their skill and be creative.” He adds, “Once you begin to work as a pro you hardly get the time to really practice.” He hopes that drummers will use quarantine time to keep on playing and become proficient, because that’s what ultimately aids career growth and sustainability as a professional musician. He adds, “And I feel all the artists involved at the FSM Drum Camp will help inspire and motivate the drummers to achieve their goals on the drums and in music.”
